How it works

MOBI books (.mobi, .azw) open from the library like any book, with nothing to set up. The title, authors, language and cover come from the book, and the contents list is made from its headings.

The book is converted the first time you open it, which takes a few seconds for a long one; after that it opens at once. Text, headings, bold and italic, links and pictures are shown.

Books with DRM (most books bought from a shop) cannot be opened, nor can books with Huffman compression or in the newer KF8 form (.azw3): PaperPaw says so when you open them. A copy as EPUB, made with a tool such as Calibre, always opens.

A plugin with code runs with full access to the reader. It can read everything on it, your passwords and other secrets included, and use the network. A faulty one can crash the reader; a hostile one can damage it for good. Install it only if you trust who made it, as you would a program on a computer.

Works with interface 6 (PaperPaw 0.6 betas).

Builds

It is built for the Xteink X4, Xteink X4 Pro and Xteink X4 Classic, made for PaperPaw 0.6. A build runs on every PaperPaw of the same plugin interface. When a release raises the interface, a reader on that release waits until the author makes a new build.

On an Xteink X4 the code of all plugins you have turned on shares limited room, about 600 KB if PaperPaw came by an update from CrossPoint. If the reader says there is not enough room, a full flash with the flasher leaves about four times as much: see the help there. Few plugins with code fit on my X4

Its code, open to read

The store shows the source of every plugin with code and keeps a copy, and rebuilds each build from that source with the compiler its fingerprint names, to compare. The file served is always the one its author signed.
