Reads and sends e-mail with a password or an app password (IMAP and SMTP), no browser login.
How it works
Mail reads and sends e-mail over IMAP and SMTP. It signs in with your address and a password, with no browser login, so it works with any provider that allows that.
Set up an account under Settings, Mail. Pick your provider, type your address and the password. Most providers want an app password: make one in your account's security settings and use that here. Your normal password often does not work, and it never goes anywhere but your provider's server. It is kept with the passwords and keys.
Open Mail in the tools. Check for mail fetches the latest mails and the folders. Mails are kept on the card, so you can read them without a network. The device connects, fetches and disconnects, so Wi-Fi is on only for a moment.
If your provider is not on the list, choose Own servers and set the server names, ports and security under the advanced settings. A server whose certificate no authority vouches for asks once whether to trust it; compare the fingerprint with what your provider shows.
Home screen widgets show the unread count, the latest and the starred mails, one mailbox, and a shortcut to write a mail.
A plugin with code runs with full access to the reader. It can read everything on it, your passwords and other secrets included, and use the network. A faulty one can crash the reader; a hostile one can damage it for good. Install it only if you trust who made it, as you would a program on a computer.
Works with interface 6 (PaperPaw 0.6 betas).
Builds
It is built for the Xteink X4, Xteink X4 Pro and Xteink X4 Classic, made for PaperPaw 0.6. A build runs on every PaperPaw of the same plugin interface. When a release raises the interface, a reader on that release waits until the author makes a new build.
On an Xteink X4 the code of all plugins you have turned on shares limited room, about 600 KB if PaperPaw came by an update from CrossPoint. If the reader says there is not enough room, a full flash with the flasher leaves about four times as much: see the help there. Few plugins with code fit on my X4
Its code, open to read
The store shows the source of every plugin with code and keeps a copy, and rebuilds each build from that source with the compiler its fingerprint names, to compare. The file served is always the one its author signed.
