PaperPaw is a beta: for testing, and for developers, who can build their own plugins before the release. Expect rough edges.

Notes vault

Reads a folder of Markdown notes by folders, tags and latest changes, with widgets for the home screen. Works with Obsidian vaults.

How it works

Notes vault reads a folder of Markdown notes (plain .md files, as notes apps keep them). It works with Obsidian vaults.

Choose the vault's folder in the settings, or on the vault's page in the tools. The page then offers the folders as they are on the card, the notes changed last, the tags, and a search in the notes' titles.

The first time, the vault is indexed in the background while its page is open; a vault of thousands of notes takes a few minutes, then opens at once. The index is kept on the card and made again when the vault's page opens after some hours, or when you choose Update.

A note opens in the reader. Links to other notes ([[Note]], [[Note|words]], [[Note#Heading]]) are found by the note's name anywhere in the vault; following one opens that note, and Back returns to the note before.

Nothing in the vault is ever changed. The widgets for the home screen (recent notes, a pinned note, a note of the day, a random note, tags, search) are added in the home screen's editor. A widget can take its notes from one folder only: write the folder's path from the card's root (for example Notes/Work) in the widget's settings; left empty, it takes all notes of the vault.

A plugin with code runs with full access to the reader. It can read everything on it, your passwords and other secrets included, and use the network. A faulty one can crash the reader; a hostile one can damage it for good. Install it only if you trust who made it, as you would a program on a computer.

Works with interface 6 (PaperPaw 0.6 betas).

Builds

It is built for the Xteink X4, Xteink X4 Pro and Xteink X4 Classic, made for PaperPaw 0.6. A build runs on every PaperPaw of the same plugin interface. When a release raises the interface, a reader on that release waits until the author makes a new build.

On an Xteink X4 the code of all plugins you have turned on shares limited room, about 600 KB if PaperPaw came by an update from CrossPoint. If the reader says there is not enough room, a full flash with the flasher leaves about four times as much: see the help there. Few plugins with code fit on my X4

Its code, open to read

The store shows the source of every plugin with code and keeps a copy, and rebuilds each build from that source with the compiler its fingerprint names, to compare. The file served is always the one its author signed.
